Area:
In the south eastern part of Jutland, nature offers many different kinds of landscapes from large agricultural areas consisting of fields and valleys to wooden areas and fiords flowing into the Little Belt. There are also some fine beaches in the area, among others Flovt and Kelstrup beach.
Dybbøl Mølle (Dybbøl mill) is an evident trace left from the wars that took place in this area, among others the wars between Denmark and the Prussian army in the 19th century. Visit Dybbøl Mølle and the history centre called Dybbøl Banke where you can relive the famous and fatal battle of Dybbøl Mølle in 1864. You must also visit the former fortress and castle, Koldinghus in Kolding.
If you prefer to visit some of the cities of the area, Haderslev, Aabenraa and Sønderborg are worth a visit. In Haderslev you can experience a charming town center and the old cathedral. You may also visit Dyrehaven (The Zoo) by Haderslev for extraodrinary nature experiences. In Aabenraa you can go visiting the Aabenraa Museum/ the Maritime Museum of South Jutland or Brundlund Castle dating back to 1411. Part of the castle is now an art museum. Sønderborg on the island of Als is the biggest town in this area, and it is beautifully situated with the waters of Als Sund on both sides. Here you can visit Sønderborg Castle built during the first half of the 13th century. Today the castle houses exhibitions and other arrangements.
